Junya kataoka & Rie Iwatake are Artist couple that began collaboration works that created by a combination of poetic machines by Junya and delicate collages by Rie since 2013.

We have participated in some of the artist residency programs. We created artworks based on materials and experience that found in the place of the residency program. As same residency experiences, we shall make artworks by using different media from each other.

We look afresh at the inside of the characteristic of materials. Take a look at the things in general carefully.You may realize there is something quite unique happening going on. We took that element for our artwork. This is the experimental approach that revives things in an artistic way.

Expressing the causal relationships in a poetic manner, I obscure the difference between natural and artificial things in my discoveries. Our intention is to show that we are part of nature by noting the resemblance between an aspect of the ‘artificial’ urban environment and results of natural’ geological processes. It is an example of our general interest in creating site-specific work that juxtaposes the local organic environment and the man-made infrastructure of the area.
