Cyanide, also known as potassium cyanate, is highly toxic as we know, and to change “potassium” into “hydrogen” means that,although equally dangerous, hydrogen gas exists universally in the atmosphere. Calling myself KCN as name of toxic is to express how toxic my work could be, and yet it is also a general element that you could also find in life.

Wu Xu-yao, aka KCN was born and raised in Chang-Hua, Taiwan,1972. He has been painting for 20 years since 1992, and his theme of work is mainly about Taiwan under Japanese rule. In addition to the characteristics of clothing, there are details from personal observation, providing strong vibes of the era and shows a distinguishing feature of him. His style is unpredictable yet intense, sometimes it’s warm and delicate where the characters have peachy cheeks, but with a trace of the vicissitudes of contemporary atmosphere;sometimes it’s intense and dark where the characters’ texture is like abandoned rust metal, and the work is filled with a contradictory temperament of chaos,instability and serene elegance.
