Elien Ronse

Period: 2015/07/21 ~ 2015/10/21

Nation: Belgium

Genre: Mix-mediums

The starting point for Elien Ronse (Belgium, 1987) is the banal structure of her own life and people surrounding her. She’s endlessly documenting and observing places where she’s living by taking pictures and writing, for example she’s photographing every bed she’s sleeping in. She methodically collects objective observations, applying both rigorous and arbitrary rules to organize and display her archive.

In her work social interaction is crucial. She’s crossing thresholds that separate intimate spaces from public ones. This she does to question assumptions about the way the domestic environment is used and understood. Ronse’s work refers to the way we're controlling our environment by adapting everything to make life easier.

She’s photographing surrounding households and gives special attention to patterns and designs. Next to that she’s writing objective reports from everyday life. For a long time she used these documents to make paintings. Now her paintings are moving to more conceptual paintings and she’s making installations, games, audio-work and video-work.
