We did the 8 months research on Taiwanese aboriginal culture, and exchange with artists and art professionals in Taiwan by ACC (Asian Cultural Council) grant in 2019-2020. So we are interested about Makatao (Taiwanese Plains Indigenous Peoples) in Kaohsiung. We will do the research about Saaroa tribe also, they have miatungusu(聖貝祭).

I think that the ship is the metaphor of island separated from the continent. The figure of the ship launched on the land after the East Japan Earthquake disaster and Tsunami has been indelibly etched in my mind by the 2011. And a ship connects the beginning and the end of humans. A baby is born wrapped in the placental boat from the amniotic fluid sea and a dead is wrapped in a coffin as a ship.

We will make the egg-like shelter ship of shells by shells collected in Kaohsiung. Makatao people has the faith of egg. I think an egg also a metaphor of a ship. There is also an ancient myth that first person came on an egg-like ship in Japan.

It will be a symbolic ship that awakens the ancient memories of Kaohsiung’s oceans.
