Ananda Serné holds an MA in Fine Arts from the Iceland University of the Arts and has received multiple research and studio residency grants, including the Jan van Eyck Post-academic Institute in Maastricht supported by the Dutch Foundation for Literature, Bamboo Curtain Studio in Taipei supported by the Mondriaan Fund, and a recurring residency at the Ny-Ålesund Centre for Arctic Scientific Research in Svalbard through the Association of Norwegian Visual Artists.
In addition to her visual art practice, she is also a writer. Her debut novel, Nachtbloeiers, set in a society struggling with sleeplessness, was published by Cossee Publishers and was nominated for the Libris Literature Prize.
Her work often emerges from dialogues with others, such as biologists or people experiencing insomnia, exploring the intersection of biology and culture. From these engagements, she develops works using video, performance, and textiles. She collects specific images and sounds from various locations as creative material and then intuitively arranges these elements into new narrative compositions.
